Bergen Essex Tax Appeal Service began as a division of Herold Real Estate and Appraisal Companies.  We started in Bogota in 1947 and moved to our present Hackensack, New Jersey location in 1963.

Property Tax Consultant, Jeffrey C. Herold, with over 45 years of New Jersey Real Estate experience is the President and director of Bergen Essex Tax Appeal Service.  He and a group of Legal, Appraisal and Environmental experts approach the task of lowering excessive Assessed Values at a more efficient and lower cost than most prevailing methods.

After many years of business experience and property ownership, we have concluded that municipalities should not be permitted to over-tax property owners based upon a method that they themselves consider to be inaccurate.

We recognize that municipalities have operational costs that must be fairly distributed to property owners, but object to both the arcane methods utilized and defensive tactics employed by many local tax assessors and county tax boards to discourage property owners who seek fairness.

We do not want to file a tax appeal on your behalf unless you have a case (i.e.: Are able to prove that your adjusted assessed value exceeds market value by more than 15%, the margin of error given to New Jersey Tax Assessors).  If you have a case, we want to first give the municipality an opportunity to settle the matter fairly.  If not, we are prepared to proceed with county and state appeals that will establish a fair value on your property.
